Abstract:

4−Oxoquinolizine antimicrobials having 2−pyridone skeleton as partial structure are provided, which have potent antimicrobial activity against Gram−positive and −negative bacteria and anaerobic bacteria. The antimicrobials are compounds represented by the general formula (I) or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof: (I) wherein R₁ is hydrogen or a carboxyl−protecting group&semi R₂ is hydrogen, halogeno, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, or hydroxyl&semi R₃ is phenyl or a five− or six−membered aromatic heterocyclic group, which has a substituent selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, nitro, cyano, amino, acyl, carbamoyl, and ureido&semi and R₄ is hydrogen or halogeno.
