Antitussives containing as the active ingredient tricyclic compounds represented by the general formula (I) or pharmacologically acceptable salts thereof: (I) wherein R¹ is hydrogen, substituted or unsubstituted lower alkyl, or the like; X¹-X²-X³ is CR⁵=CR⁶-CR⁷=CR⁸ (wherein R⁵, R⁶, R⁷ and R⁸ are each independently hydrogen, substituted or unsubstituted lower alkyl, or the like) or the like; Y is -CH₂S- or the like; and R² is hydrogen, substituted or unsubstituted lower alkyl, or the like.
