Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide an aqueous dispersion of a vinyl halide copolymer, said aqueous dispersion exhibiting good film formation performance after long-term storage, while enabling a film after coating to maintain high water vapor barrier properties. An aqueous dispersion of a vinyl halide copolymer according to the present invention is characterized by containing a vinyl halide copolymer which contains a structural unit derived from a vinyl halide monomer and a structural unit derived from a copolymerization monomer that has a reactivity ratio r1 of less than 0.7 relative to vinylidene chloride, wherein the mass ratio of the structural unit derived from a copolymerization monomer that has a reactivity ratio r1 of less than 0.7 relative to a total of 100 parts by mass of the structural unit derived from a vinyl halide monomer, the structural unit derived from a copolymerization monomer that has a reactivity ratio r1 of less than 0.7 and a structural unit derived from a copolymerization monomer that has a reactivity ratio r1 of 0.7 or more is 1 part by mass or more. This aqueous dispersion of a vinyl halide copolymer is also characterized in that if S1 is the area of a melting peak that has a melting peak temperature of 170°C or more and S2 is the area of a melting peak that has a melting peak temperature of less than 170°C, S1/(S1 + S2) is from 0 to 0.33.
