Abstract:
The prevent invention provides an aramid-based epoxy resin and a preparation method thereof. Aramid powder is used as a raw material to react first with a metalizing reagent. A plurality of ethylene oxides, propylene oxides, or a mixture thereof are bound to activated amide groups of the aramid to introduce reactive functional hydroxyl groups. Then, ring-opening and closing reactions are performed using epichlorohydrin (ECH) to produce a liquid aramid-based epoxy resin. The para-aramid raw material of the present invention can be a low molecular weight aramid or real product aramid powder. The metal modification of the aramid powder by sodium metal, sodium hydroxide, or sodium methoxide has advantages such as being easy to use and producing less hydrogen gas compared to sodium hydride. An alkali metal compound formed after hydroxyalkylation can be used directly as a raw material for ECH epoxidation. The epoxy resin preparation process is simple and has a high epoxy value. The aramid-based epoxy resin has low viscosity and high reactivity. Incorporating a small amount of the aramid-based epoxy resin into E-51 improves significantly the properties of a cured product such as tensile strength, anti-impact performance, or bend strength.
