Abstract:
Provided is an arc stud welding method for joining dissimilar materials that can join an aluminum alloy and a material other than pure aluminum with a dissimilar material other than an aluminum alloy or pure aluminum, with outstanding appearance performance, stable and highly reliable quality, and high efficiency. A first plate (10), which is made of a material other an aluminum alloy or pure aluminum and in which a hole section (11) is formed, and a second plate (20), which is made of an aluminum alloy or pure aluminum, are overlapped; and a joining assistance member (30), which is made of an aluminum alloy or pure aluminum and which has a stepped external shape including an insertion section (31) and a non-insertion section (32), is inserted into the hole section (11) via a non-consumable electrode (40). Next, an arc is generated between the joining assistance member (30) and the second plate (20), and a tip section (31a) of the insertion section (31) and the second plate (20) are welded by arc heat, thereby forming a melt. Then, the joining assistance member (30) is pressed toward the lower plate (20) so that the joining assistance member (30) and the second plate (20) are welded in a state where a lower surface of the non-insertion section (32) of the joining assistance member (30) is welded to an upper surface of the upper plate (10) with no clearance therebetween.
