Abstract:
A compound represented by the general formula (I) (R1, R2, R4, and R5 each represents alkyl or aryl, or R1 and R2 and&sol or R4 and R5 may be bonded to each other to form a ring&semi R3 represents hydrogen or sulfo&semi R6, R7, R8, and R9 each represents hydrogen, halogeno, alkyl, alkoxy, amino, nitro, or cyano&semi X1 and X2 each represents alkyl or aryl&semi m1 to m3 each is 0 or 1&semi L1 to L7 each represents methine, provided that when two or more of the methines each has a substituent, then the substituents may be bonded to each other to form a ring&semi M represents hydrogen, a metal, or a quaternary ammonium salt&semi and n is an integer of 1 to 7 necessary for charge neutralization) or a salt of the compound. They are usable as a novel cyanine dye useful as an infrared−sensitive dye which exerts no adverse influence on the photographic properties of a photographic emulsion and is reduced in residual color after development.
