Abstract:
An automatic escalator having steps moving along tracks. Each step (1) uses an independent motor (11) to drive the gears (12) of the step to move along gear tracks (13). Guiding wheels (14, 15) move along tracks while the steps are kept at a horizontal state. At two ends of the automatic escalator, the handrails at two sides are driven by a motor (31) to contract. The steps operate in cycles in both upward and downward directions. During ascending and descending processes, a step moves at a walking speed when a passenger boards the step, accelerates to a trotting speed when the passenger stands on the step, and decelerates to a walking speed before the passenger alights. The present automatic escalator uses an independent motor to drive each step to move along the guide rails, being different from existing escalators which use a chain to drive all steps to operate in a rolling cycle and to move horizontally at a walking speed. With the present automatic escalator, only the step having a passenger standing thereabove works independently, thereby conserving energy. The present invention moves at a walking speed when passengers board and alight and transports at a trotting speed, and therefore has a high average speed and saves the riding time of the passengers.
