THz imaging

Technical Field

The invention relates to a system that will be used for security and public safety control as well as in check points such as airports, ports and critical buildings, etc. with features such as security investigation and passport control, fingerprinting and face recognition.

The invention relates to a system with an imager which operates in the THz frequency range integrated with a walk-through system that allows detection of harmful or harmless, concealed, metallic or non-metallic objects on a person while providing security with passport control, fingerprinting and face recognition.

State of the Art

Recent security concerns worldwide have made it necessary to put large number of people through detailed security inspections in critical infrastructure and border entrances. The desire is to implement inspection processes which will enhance security while providing improvements in several aspects, such as answering the high throughput at crowded places, standardizing control and inquiry processes, minimizing operator/human errors and increasing the feel of confidence in security without making individuals uncomfortable as much as possible.

In the prior technique, people went through several checkpoints before boarding the plane. First, control is done at the entrance where each person passes through the security check-point one by one. During the control, the people remove all metal items on them and place their bags in the security device. These processes are also done again after the passport control point. Therefore, individual control at each point leads to a loss of time for people resulting in queues at these checkpoints.

In the prior technique there is no system in which all controls are made in one section. As a result, due to the drawbacks mentioned above and the inadequacy of the existing solutions regarding the subject matter, it is necessary to make a development in the related technical field.

Objects of the Invention

The invention, whose development is inspired by the current conditions, aims to solve the above mentioned drawbacks.

The main objective of the present invention is to provide autonomous biometric safe/secure transit/passing, control and monitoring system with active THz imaging.

The other objective of the present invention is to provide ease during the inspection process, in that the person is guided through e-passport and biometric identity check points by following set of instructions without requiring any assistance of an operator.

The other objective of the present invention is to provide screening where the person can be scanned for concealed objects by THz imaging system.

The other objective of the present invention is to generate a warning/alarm in the case of any doubt/detection.

To achieve the aforementioned objectives, the present invention is based on an integrated walk-through system which allows detection of concealed objects on the person and provides control such as security investigation and passport control, fingerprinting and face recognition that comprises,

- a passageway channel wherein controls are done,

- an entrance door to provide a way for people to enter the passageway channel,

- a control door that opens for people to leave the passageway channel before check-out,

- a passport control unit in the passageway channel that checks passport and gives a warning for closing the control door when a suspicious situation is detected,

- a fingerprint reading unit in the passageway channel that reads fingerprints and gives a warning by closing the control door when a suspicious situation is detected, - a face recognition unit in the passageway channel that does face recognition control and gives a warning by closing the control door when a suspicious situation is detected,

- an imaging system in the passageway channel that scans concealed objects on the people and gives a warning by closing the control door when a suspicious situation is detected,

- an exit door is opened if there is no suspicious situation and provides a way for the people leave from the passageway channel.

The structural and characteristic features and all the advantages of the present invention is detailed in the figures below and the descriptions written with reference to those figures, therefore; the evaluation needs to be done by taking said figures and the detailed description into consideration.

Detailed Description of the Invention In this detailed description, the preferred embodiments of the invention are described only for a better understanding of the subject without any limiting effect.

The invention relates to a system that will be used for the security and public safety control and check points such as airports, ports and critical buildings, etc., comprising of a walk-through system integrated with an imager which operates in the THz frequency range that allows for detection of harmful or harmless, concealed, metallic or non-metallic objects on the person while providing security with passport control, fingerprinting and face recognition. During the inspection process, the person is guided through e-passport and biometric identity check points by following set of instructions without requiring any assistance of an operator with the system.

Fig.1 is overview of the system of the present invention and shows parts of the system. The system comprises of an entrance door (10), a control door (1 1 ), an exit door (12), an imaging system (20), a passageway channel (30), a passport control unit (40), a first screen (41 ), a fingerprint reading unit (50), a second screen (51 ) and a face recognition unit (60).

THz imaging system (20) is operated at a standoff distance, which allows scanning to be performed at any point during the inspection process by eliminating the need to use confined spaces for body scanning. Locations of possible threat objects and contraband made of metal and, in addition, ceramic, plastic, liquids etc. are identified using object detection algorithms.

The system is able to generate a warning/alarm in the case of any doubt/detection. If there is no suspicious situation, the exit gate is opened and the transition process is completed. This invention will be used for the security and public safety control and check points such as airports, ports and critical buildings, etc.

Working principle of the invention:

The person enters the passageway channel (30) with the help of the automatic entrance door (10). At this moment, the entrance door (10) is closed, the control door (1 1 ) is opened and the exit door (12) is closed. Then the person shows his/her passport to the passport control unit (40). In the control unit (40), passport reading and inquiry process is completed and displayed on the first screen (41 ). Then the person walks to the other stage, shows his/her finger to the fingerprint reading unit (50). In the fingerprint reading unit (50) fingerprint reading and inquiry process is completed and displayed on the second screen (51 ). During this process, by the aid of the face recognition unit (60) (via camera) face recognition and inquiry process is completed and displayed on the second screen (51 ). During or any stationary position through the walk-through, the person will also be scanned for concealed objects with the THz imaging system (20).

During all the above mentioned operations, in case of doubt, the entrance door (10) is closed (all other doors are also closed), the person stays in the passageway channel (30) and alarm is generated. If there is no suspicious situation, the exit door (12) is opened and the transition process is completed.

The invention relates to an imager which operates in the THz frequency range integrated with a walk-through system that allows detection of harmful or harmless, concealed, metallic or non-metallic objects on the person awhile providing security with passport control, fingerprinting and face recognition.

In summary, the invention based on an integrated walk-through system which allows detection of concealed objects on the person and provides control such as security investigation and passport control, fingerprinting and face recognition that comprises,

- the passageway channel (30) wherein controls are done,
