Abstract:
An autonomous driving system comprises a mobile base having one or multiple motorized wheels, a first end, and a second end opposite the first end, one or multiple cameras capable of recognizing a target object, one or multiple distance sensors capable of measuring a distance between the target object and the mobile base, and a controller. The controller controls movement of the motorized wheel according to information received by the one or multiple cameras and distance sensors, and switches, in response to a change in an environmental condition, an operation mode of the autonomous driving system from a following mode employing machine vision to a pure distance measurement mode such that the autonomous driving system automatically and continuously follows the target object moving in a specific direction. In the following mode employing machine vision, all data acquired by the one or multiple cameras and the one or multiple distance sensors is used in following the target object. In the pure distance measurement mode, only the data of the one or multiple distance sensors is used in following the target object.
