Abstract:
Provided is an azimuth thruster that can maintain favorable tooth bearing of an in-pod bevel gear unit that is lubricated by means of dipping and wherein easy observation and confirmation of tooth bearing state is possible. The azimuth thruster (1) is provided with a driving force transmission mechanism that transmits driving force to a pod (2) propeller (3) from a power source installed in a ship using a bevel gear unit that converts the power transmission direction of a drive shaft. The driving force transmission mechanism drives the propeller (3) by transmitting driving force from an in-ship horizontal drive shaft connected to the power source to a vertical drive shaft (6) via the in-ship bevel gear unit, and transmitting driving force from the vertical drive shaft (6) to an in-pod horizontal drive shaft (7) via the in-pod bevel gear unit (20). A soft metal plating layer (M) is formed on the tooth surfaces (G) of the bevel gears (21, 22) that configure the in-pod bevel gear unit (20) that is lubricated by dipping.
