Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a backlight unit capable of irradiating with high efficiency a liquid crystal panel with light emitted from a light guide plate. [Solution] The problem is solved by: including a light source, a light guide plate in which light enters from an end surface and is emitted from one main surface, and an optical film that is disposed on a side opposite a light-emitting surface of the light guide plate; and the optical film including a plurality of reflective polarizing elements having a curved surface, and/or a plurality of reflective polarizing elements having an inclined surface that is inclined with respect to the direction of light propagation of the light guide plate.
