Description:
BARSTOOL ACCESSORY This invention relates to an accessory for a barstool, in particular for temporarily converting the barstool into a table.

According to the present invention there is provided a barstool accessory comprising a tabletop having a dependent skirt for fitting over the top of a barstool, the interior surface of the skirt having means for gripping the periphery of the barstool to stabilise the accessory on the barstool.

Preferably the skirt is cylindrical, for fitting the accessory to a circular barstool. Most preferably, the tabletop is circular and the skirt depends from the periphery of the table top.

Embodiments of the invention will now be described, bv way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a barstool accessory according to a first embodiment of the invention; Figs. 2 (a) and 2 (b) are respectively a vertical section and a cutaway perspective view of the accessory of Fig.

1 ; Figs. 3 (a) and 3 (b) are respectively a vertical section and a cutaway perspective view of a second embodiment of barstool accessory ;

Figs. 4 (a) and 4 (b) are respectively a vertical section and a cutaway perspective view of a third embodiment of barstool accessory; and Figs. 5 (a) and 5 (b) are respectively a vertical section and a cutaway perspective view of a fourth embodiment of barstool accessory.

Referring to Figs. 1,2 (a) and 2 (b), a first embodiment of barstool accessory comprises a circular tabletop 10 having a cylindrical skirt 12 depending from the periphery thereof for fitting over the circular top 14 of a barstool 16. The tabletop 10 has a raised lip 18 around its outer edge, and the tabletop and skirt are integrally moulded from plastics material. In order to stabilise the accessory on the barstool, the interior surface of the skirt 12 has a resilient sponge-like material 20 for grippinq the periphery 22 of the barstool 16.

In a second embodiment, Figs. 3 (a) and 3 (b), the interior surface of the skirt 12 has a plurality of internal circumferential ribs 24, moulded integrally with the skirt, for gripping the periphery 20 of the barstool 16. In this case the ribs 24 are substantially less resilient than the material 20.

However, this embodiment is suitable for fitting to an upholstered barstool, since in that case the periphery 20 is able to yield somewhat as the skirt 12 is pushed down over the top 14. It will be understood that the first embodiment may be fitted to barstools whose top 14 is either solid, such as of wood, or upholstered.

In a third embodiment, Figs. 4 (a) and 4 (b), the interior surface of the skirt 12 has a plurality of internal upwardly directed resilient barbs 26, moulded integrally with the skirt, for gripping the periphery 20 of the barstool 16. In this case the accessory may be fitted to barstools whose top 14 is either solid or upholstered.

In a fourth embodiment, Figs. 5 (a) and 5 (b), the interior surface of the skirt 12 has a plurality of internal raised dimples 28, moulded integrally with the skirt, for gripping the periphery 20 of the barstool 16. Like the second embodiment, this embodiment is primarily suitable for fitting to an upholstered barstool.

In each case the outer diameter of the skirt 12 is about 15 inches, with the gripping features 20,24,26 or 28 on the inside surface of the skirt extending inwardly about one inch. This allows the accessory to be fitted to standard circular barstools, whose top 14 generally has a diameter of 13 to 13 inches.

The invention is not limited to the embodiment described herein which may be modified or varied without departing from the scope of the invention.
