Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing a novel production method whereby somatic cells can be directly converted or induced into brown adipocytes using a low-molecular compound without performing gene transfer. As an example of the method according to the present invention, citation can be made of a method for producing brown adipocytes by directly inducing differentiation of somatic cells into brown adipocytes, said method being characterized by comprising a step for culturing the somatic cells in a differentiation-inducing serum-free medium in the presence of a selective PPARγ agonist and a cAMP inducing agent. According to the invention, somatic cells can be directly converted or induced into brown adipocytes at a high efficiency without performing gene transfer. The brown adipocytes obtained by the invention are useful in regenerative medicine and as a human adipocyte model or a human beige cell model, etc.
