Description:
DESCRIPTION

CATAMARAN WITH BALANCING SYSTEM

TECHNICAL FIELD

The invention generally relates to floating vessels of catamaran type used in marine transportation.

The invention specifically relates to a catamaran with balancing system for the purposes of improving the balance on water, safety and naval capabilities of the crew during cruise.

STATE OF THE ART

Today, various techniques are being used for the purpose of improving the performance of floating vessels. Especially in floating vessels such as cruise ships and sail boats, where the capabilities of the crew has a direct effect on the course of the cruise, criteria such as having a stable structure, a bigger sail and higher speed are highly important. Floating vessels called catamaran have been developed in order to fulfill these criteria.

Catamaran type floating vessels in the current art have two bodies called pontoon which are connected to a fixed body and which are in contact with water. These pontoons are composed of barges with various forms which enable the living area (upper body) float above water. Properties of floating vessels listed as balance on water, naval capabilities and comfort level of the cruise are directly proportional to the width of these surfaces where the vessel contacts water and their distance from one another. The fact that catamaran type floating vessels have side bodies which are distanced from each other make them more stable in comparison with the vessels having one body. Catamaran type vessels cannot be easily tipped over by the force of the lateral winds. The reason for this is that the crew using the vessel have a long force arm to balance the tipping over force (righting moment). In addition to that, these vessels are exposed to less friction by virtue of their thin bodies contacting water. Because of this property, they are especially preferred as daily cruise ships.

In current state of art, forms of barges are being designed and manufactured in a manner where they balance the total weight of the floating vessel and create the lowest possible wave resistance. However; some of their capabilities during cruise are limited although they are more stable compared to the vessels having one body due to the fact that vertical and horizontal distances between the upper body and barges are constant. Floating vessels' performance criteria, such as speed and balance, do not remain the same in different wave heights. In the application with number TR2009 / 00775, a sail boat which can transform from one body form into catamaran and trimaran form is mentioned. In this structuring the side bodies are connected to the main body via connection arms. When the said vessel is needed to be transformed into catamaran form, the side bodies which are adjacent to the body are moved away from the main body by the connection arms. Nonetheless, the height of the vessel on water cannot be adjusted in the structuring which is mentioned in this application.

Consequently, a development in the technical field of catamaran type floating vessels is made and new structurings which will eliminate the disadvantages mentioned above and provide solutions to the current systems are required.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

In the herein detailed description, the preferred configurations of catamaran (1 ) with balancing system of the invention are described only for a better understanding of the subject matter and without posing any limitations.

Catamaran with balancing system (1 ) of the invention generally is composed of at least one main body (2), at least one chassis (3) carrying the main body (2), plurality of pontoons (4) with barge form enabling the chassis (3) and the main body (2) to remain on the water, at least one pusher (5) which lies between the pontoons (4) and the chassis (3) and enables the movement of the pontoons (4) when needed, plurality of bunks (6) located on the chassis (3), plurality of joints (7) connected to the bunks (6) located on the chassis (3) and the pontoons (4) and various connection members (8) such as connection brackets.

In the catamaran system of the invention, floating pontoons (4) are connected to the main body (2) via joints (7) when the pusher (5) is in a closed state. By the movement of the linear pushers (5) located between the chassis (3) and the joint (7); the pontoons (4) move away from the chassis (2) by moving around a pivot point of joints (7). Living area located on the chassis (3) rises above the sea level due to buoyancy of water. This position is the position where the pushers (5) are open. There are bunks (6) which are resistant to sea water and these enable the rotating of the joints (7) on their pivot points and they are also connected to the chassis (3) and the pontoons (4). These bunks (6) are fixed both onto the pontoons (4) and the chassis (3) by connection members (8), which are bolted plates.

In the catamaran with balancing system (1 ) of the invention, the joints (7) are positioned into the housings (4.1 ) inside the pontoons (4) when the pusher (5) is in closed state. In an implementation of the invention, it is located into the spaces between barges, in case the pontoons (4) are formed of parts of multi - barge structure. By virtue of this invention, the vertical distance between the bodies called pontoons (4) and the main body (2) (deck) which they are connected to can be increased when desired and under the proper circumstances. By this manner, the distance of the main body (2) (deck) to the water level can be increased. This in turn provides a safe and balanced cruise in cases where the floating vessel faces situations in which the possible wave heights are increased during the cruise. Due to this property, comfort level of the vessel is improved as well as it is enabled that the design category of the floating vessel stated in CE regulations is improved. In addition to that, during this increase; outward movement of the pontoons (4) in horizontal axis with regards to water is enabled by virtue of the pantograph type joint system. By this movement, the distance of the surfaces of the floating vessel from each other which are in contact with water is increased and consequently the moment of inertia is increased significantly. Therefore, the balance capability on sea is also improved. This results in a same or improved balance and cruise performance with higher wave heights.

In an implementation of the system of the invention, the pusher (5) can automatically be activated based on parameters such as wave height and wind force. For this purpose, in the system there is at least one sensor which reads outer environment parameters such as wave height and wind force, at least one specialized processor which processes the data obtained from the sensor and administers the operation of the pusher (5), at least one control member which enables the operating of the pusher (5) when needed and at least one power member which enables the pusher (5) being driven.

By this invention, all floating vessels or cabins constructed in a certain size range and on a flat platform can obtain the achievements stated above.
