Abstract:
An embodiment of the present invention is a method for evaluating a cell function of a target cell that is a stem cell, the method comprising: an image acquisition step (S1, S2) for acquiring a photographed cell image of a target cell; a feature value extraction step (S5-S8) for extracting from the cell image, as a feature value of the target cell, information concerning the gradient of the contour part of the target cell and/or information concerning the orientation of the target cell; and an evaluation step (S9, S10) for evaluating, on the basis of the feature value of the target cell, a cell function of the target cell. This enables a quantitative evaluation of a cell function, e.g., retention of undifferentiated character, migration capability, tissue repair capability, and so forth, of stem cells.
