Abstract:
Provided are: a cellulose derivative which can be produced with high efficiency and at low cost and can adsorb a heavy metal selectively to collect the heavy metal; and a method for producing the cellulose derivative. The cellulose derivative according to the present invention is characterized in that a hydrogen atom in a hydroxyl group in a repeating unit represented by formula (I) in a cellulose having the repeating unit is substituted by a group represented by formula (a), and the average degree of substitution of the hydrogen atom in the hydroxyl group by the group represented by formula (a) is 0.10 to 2.34.
