Abstract:
A charging apparatus (1) that charges a storage battery (21) mounted in an electric vehicle (2) is characterized by comprising: a first relay (11) that generates a communications start signal for starting communications between the charging apparatus (1) and the electric vehicle (2); a cable (14) electrically connecting the charging apparatus (1) and the electric vehicle (2) and having a connector (13) at one end thereof for connecting to a plug (22) in the electric vehicle (2); a signal line included in the cable (14) and having the first relay (11) connected thereto; a power supply circuit (61) that, when the connector (13) is connected to the plug (22), supplies current to the signal line; a current detection circuit (62) that detects that current has been supplied to the signal line; and a controller (15) that, when the current detection circuit (62) detects a current, controls the first relay (11) and starts communications.
