Abstract:
The present invention provides: a coating-forming composition that makes it possible to form a coating having excellent water repellency and water resistance and high hardness; and a coating. This coating-forming composition contains inorganic fine particles, a polymerizable component, and a water-repellent component. The average particle size of the inorganic fine particles is 100 nm or more and no more than 5 μm. The content of the inorganic fine particles is 5-40 parts by mass per 100 parts by mass of the total mass of the inorganic fine particles, the thermosetting resin component, and the water-repellent component. The water-repellent component is a polymer having at least a structural unit based on a compound represented by general formula (1). In the formula, X is a hydrogen atom or the like, Y is a direct bond, a hydrocarbon group that has 1-10 carbon atoms and that may include an oxygen atom, or the like, and Ra is a straight-chain or branched alkyl group having 20 carbon atoms or less, a straight-chain or branched fluoroalkyl group having 6 carbon atoms or less, or the like.
