Abstract:
A coin identification unit is provided which can more accurately identify coins regardless of the type of coins being processed. This coin identification unit is provided with a conveyance path for conveying a coin while maintaining the coin in an upright state, a first reading surface where one side of the coin is read, a first image acquisition means which acquires an image of one side of the coin via the first reading surface, a second conveyance belt which, at the time when the image of the one coin side is acquired, conveys the coin while pressing from the other side, a second reading surface where the other side of the coin is read, a second image acquisition means which acquires an image of the other side of the coin via the second reading surface, a first conveyance belt which, at the time when the image of the other side of the coin is acquired, conveys the coin while pressing from the one side, and an identification unit which identifies the coin on the basis of the image of the one side and the image of the other side of the coin, wherein the first and the second conveyance belts are arranged so as to at least partially overlap.
