Description:
COMBINED STRUCTURE OF SPRINKLER HEAD FOR EXTINGUISHING A FIRE Technical Field The present invention relates to a combined structure of a fire sprinkler head, and more particularly, to a combined structure of a fire sprinkler head in which a heat sensitive body and a water jet plate are built. The sprinkler head according to the present invention can be protected safely from external impacts during distribution or installation, or after installation, and have a minimum projecting part from ceiling finishing materials. Additionally, in checking the sprinkler head, it is easy to disassemble, connect, and exchange parts. In the sprinkler head according to the present invention, if the temperature in a room rises, a heat sensitive body in the sprinkler head is burst and the water jet plate plugging an offlet is instantly dropped downward on the bottom of a water jet cap.

Therefore, the sprinkler head according to the present invention can extinguish fire rapidly by jetting universally a large amount of water discharged from an offlet through various jet holes over a broad area : Background Art Many buildings are required to have sprinklers at various locations in different rooms or areas in order to extinguish fire in early state. These fire sprinklers have various types in accordance with methods of installation and purposes of use of sprinkler heads. However, the sprinkler heads have problems such as limitations for the height of a ceiling and wrong workings according to the head types.

A conventional sprinkler head is composed of a water jet plate, which is attached at the bottom ends of two frames formed at the right and left of an offlet, and an offlet plug plate and a heat sensitive body between the two frames.

However, the conventional sprinkler head provides no protective enclosure for the heat sensitive body, and, therefore, the heat sensitive body can be easily crashed by external impacts during handling or after installation. Moreover, there is a problem that the conventional sprinkler head installed on a ceiling is projected largely from on the ceiling.

Examples of other types of sprinkler heads are disclosed in Japanese Patent Publication No. 96-256419 (Fig. 1) and Korean Utility Model No.

0266335 (Fig. 2). Such sprinkler heads, having a fuse-type heat sensitive body made of a metal melted easily such as lead, are composed of a nut supporting plate having two wings which is fastened to a catching jaw of a water jet plate, a offlet plug plate and a convexo-concave nut which are mounted on the two wings of the nut supporting plate, and a bolt which is screwed up into the convexo- concave nut through the central part of the nut supporting plate. These sprinkler heads include a fuse having a heat sensitive plate adhered on the broad lower end of the nut supporting plate by means of lead. Therefore, in case of fire, because a melting rate of the lead is not uniform momentarily, the heat sensitive plate and the nut supporting plate are not separated completely. As a result, a balance of assembly load of the sprinkler head is broken, water pressured enough is jetted in a small amount continuously, and, therefore, the partly melted lead is hardened so that the sprinkler head does not function correctly. In addition, the fuse-type sprinkler head has a problem that a water leakage is caused by aging of the fuse because the inherent tensile strength of metal has a different value according to an

external temperature.

There are other sprinkler heads using a glass bulb as a heat sensitive body.

Examples of such sprinkler heads are disclosed in Finnish Patent Application No.

980034 (Fig. 3), Russian Patent Application No. 2000107338 (Fig. 4), and Korean Utility Model No. 0145422 (Fig. 5). However, because such sprinkler heads have complicated structures, they are unnecessarily disassembled and re-assembled in case of checking. In other words, because it is not easy to fasten and separate a glass bulb, many other parts constituting a heat sensitive body are separated and re-assembled.

Disclosure of Invention Accordingly, the present invention is directed to a combined structure of fire sprinkler head that substantially obviates one or more problems due to limitations and disadvantages of the related art.

The sprinkler head according to the present invention has a reduced magnitude in size and a minimum projecting part from ceiling finishing materials.

In the sprinkler head according to the present invention, if the temperature in a room rises, a heat sensitive body inside the sprinkler head is burst and a water jet plate plugging an offlet is instantly dropped downward on the bottom of a water jet cap. Therefore, the sprinkler head according to the present invention can extinguish fire rapidly by jetting universally a large amount of water discharged from an offlet through various jet holes over a broad area.

The sprinkler head of the present invention, which is attached to the bottom end of the offlet branched from a piping in a ceiling, has a screw structure so that a body is screwed up into the offlet and the water jet cap is

screwed up into the body. In more detail, a flexible washer is ringed to a lug on the center of the water jet plate, and the water jet plate combined with the washer plugs the bottom end of the offlet. Then, the water jet cap is connected to the body, and the heat sensitive body is inserted into the water jet cap through the nut part of the water jet cap. After fastening the top of heat sensitive body into an under hole of the water jet plate, a fastening bolt is screwed up into the nut part of the water jet cap. At the same time, the water jet plate is fastened more firmly to the offlet as the heat sensitive body is moved by the fastening bolt.

In case of fire, the heat sensitive body in the water jet cap is burst and the water jet plate plugging the offlet is instantly dropped downward on the bottom of the water jet cap to jet universally a large amount of water discharged from an offlet through various jet holes over a broad area. In addition, because the heat sensitive body is inserted through the nut part of the water jet cap and assembled, it is easy to disassemble, assemble and exchange parts in case of checking.

Best mode for Carrying Out the Invention Reference will now be made in detail to the preferred embodiments of the present invention, examples of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

Generally, many buildings have lots of piping systems installed in ceilings.

Sprinkler heads (100) are installed at the bottom end of an offlet branched from a piping (150) in a ceiling in a room.

As shown in Figs. 6-9, a sprinkler head is composed of a body (1), a water jet plate (3) with a lug (55) on the center thereof and an under hole (10) underneath thereof, a washer (2), a water jet cap (4), a heat sensitive body (5), and a fastening bolt (6). In more detail, the flexible washer (2) is ringed to the lug (55) of the water jet plate (3), and, then, the water jet plate (3) combined with the washer (2) plugs the bottom end of an offlet (50) so that water may not be discharged. The water jet cap (4) with various jet holes (41) is firmly screwed to a nut-shaped rim (20) of the body (1). The heat sensitive body (5) is inserted into the water jet cap (4) through a nut part (25) of the water jet cap (4) so that the upper end of the heat sensitive body (5) can be fastened to the under hole (10) of the water jet plate (3), and the fastening bolt (6) is screwed up into the nut part (25) so that the fastening bolt (6) can be in contact with the heat sensitive body (5). As the fastening bolt (6) moves up, the water jet plate (3) is fastened more firmly to the offlet (50). The gap (8) between the sprinkler head (100) and ceiling materials (200) is finished by mean of inserting a covering (7) in the sprinkler head (100).

In case of fire, the sprinkler head according to the present invention is operated as shown in the Fig. 7. If a room temperature rises due to a fire, a heat sensitive material in the heat sensitive body (5) expands in response to the temperature rise and ruptures the glass bulb. At the same time, the water jet plate (3) plugging the offlet (50) is instantly dropped downward on the bottom of the water jet cap (4) to be combined with a catching jaw on the water jet cap (4), and as the offlet (50) is open, the pressured water in the offlet (50) is jetted through various jet holes (41) over a broad area. Therefore, the sprinkler head according to the present invention can extinguish fire rapidly.

Industrial applicability Thus, the sprinkler head of the present invention provides an effect of cost saving due to simplification of parts, and an effect of interior decoration due to a small projecting part and reduction of size. Moreover, the sprinkler head of the present invention can fundamentally prevent wrong workings due to aging of a fuse by a difference of the inherent tensile strength of metal according to a change of temperature and a damage by heavy metals from fuse making. In addition, the conventional sprinkler head using a glass bulb cannot securely protect a heat sensitive body from external impacts, and a water jet plate can be easily bent or separated from the original position by small impact. On the other hand, the sprinkler head according to the present invention has a built-in glass bulb fuse inside the water jet cap, thereby ensuring endurance, good design and stability. Also, in case of fire, the sprinkler head according to the present invention can extinguish fire rapidly by jetting universally a large amount of water over a broad area. In addition, because the heat sensitive body is inserted through the nut part of the water jet cap and assembled, it is easy to disassemble, assemble and exchange parts in case of checking.
