Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing: a composition for forming a polarizer, said composition being capable of forming a polarizer that has excellent surface properties; a polarizer; a multilayer body; and an image display device. A composition for forming a polarizer according to the present invention contains: a polymerizable liquid crystal compound which has two or more rings selected from the group consisting of aromatic rings and alicyclic rings, and two polymerizable groups, while being in a liquid crystal state of a smectic phase; a monofunctional polymerizable compound which has two or more rings selected from the group consisting of aromatic rings and alicyclic rings, and one polymerizable group; and a dichroic substance. With respect to this composition for forming a polarizer, if NA is the number of atoms of the polymerizable liquid crystal compound and NB is the number of atoms of the monofunctional polymerizable compound, NA and NB satisfy formula (1). (1): 0.35 ≤ NB/NA ≤ 0.65
