Abstract:
The present invention relates to a composition for the prevention, amelioration, or treatment of infectious diseases caused by nontuberculous mycobacteria. A compound represented by chemical formula 1 of the composition according to the present invention can very effectively inhibit the growth and proliferation of nontuberculous mycobacteria in host cells, e.g., macrophages infected therewith, even when used alone. Furthermore, unlike existing tuberculosis therapeutic agents that directly inhibit the TCA cycle of nontuberculous mycobacteria, the composition activates antimicrobial activity by inhibiting the glycolysis (or glucose metabolism) of macrophages. Thus, when used in combination with existing therapeutic agents for infectious diseases caused by nontuberculous mycobacteria, the composition can exhibit a synergistic effect of inhibiting the growth and proliferation of nontuberculous mycobacteria.
