Abstract:
A rubber/steel cord composite which can be sufficiently reduced in the contents of an adhesion promoter and sulfur while retaining satisfactory adhesive properties; and a pneumatic radial tire made using the composite as a reinforcement layer.
The rubber/steel cord composite is one obtained by: coating or filling the periphery of or the space between one or more core filaments or core strands with an adhesion-promoter-containing filling rubber (A) to form a core; twisting together a plurality of sheath filaments or sheath strands on the periphery of the core to form a layer-twisted steel cord or multi-twisted steel cord; and coating the outer surface of the layer-twisted steel cord or multi-twisted steel cord with a coating rubber (C). The rubber/steel cord composite is characterized in that the coating rubber (C) contains an adhesion promoter in an amount equal to or larger than the amount of the adhesion promoter contained in the filling rubber (A).
