A receiving unit 32 of a cruise assist device 30 receives an instruction, from an input device 18 that takes input from a rider of a vehicle, to change lanes to the left or right. A cruise control unit 40 controls lane changes on the basis of the lane change instructions received by the receiving unit from the input device. A lighting control unit 42 lights a directional indicator 58 on the side of the lane to which the change is made on the basis of the lane change instruction. Even when the receiving unit receives a first instruction to change lanes to the left or right as a lane change and the cruise control unit begins control of the first lane change, if the receiving unit receives a second lane change instruction to change lanes in the direction opposite the first lane change before at least part of the vehicle enters an adjacent lane adjacent to the traveling lane from a traveling lane in which the vehicle is traveling, an instruction determination unit 38 stops control of the lane change to the left or right by the cruise control unit and causes the lighting control unit to extinguish the directional indicator.
