Abstract:

The present invention relates to a current limiting device for limiting the amount of overcurrent generated, for example, when an accidental short circuit occurs in a power system. The current limiting device comprises: a current limiting resistor (20) connected between fixed electrodes (4, 5); a plurality of openable contact members (11) provided adjacent to each other, forming a parallel circuit together with the current limiting resistor (20) when a steady-state current flows; a contact driver which opens the contact members (11) due to an overcurrent generated in the power system; opening members (12, 13) connected to the contact members (11) to substantially equalize the opening intervals of the plurality of contact members (11); and a plurality of springs (14 - 19) for biasing the opening members (12, 13). The spring force of each spring (14 - 19) is configured such that the further away from the contact driver, the larger the spring force.
