Abstract:
Provided is a fluid lipstick system comprising: an applicator adapted to receive one or more fluid bases, wherein the applicator comprises a fill opening and a dispensing opening, and wherein the one or more fluid bases are transferred into the applicator through the fill opening to form a fluid lipstick contained within the applicator; and a propulsion means adapted to engage with the applicator, wherein the propulsion means is adapted to push the fluid lipstick through the dispensing opening of the applicator. Also provided are kits and methods for making such a system.

Claims:
In the Claims

What is claimed is:

1. A fluid lipstick system, the system comprising:

an applicator adapted to receive one or more fluid bases, wherein the applicator comprises a fill opening and a dispensing opening, and wherein the one or more fluid bases are transferred into the applicator through the fill opening to form a fluid lipstick contained within the applicator; and

a propulsion means adapted to engage with the applicator, wherein the propulsion means is adapted to push the fluid lipstick through the dispensing opening of the applicator. 2. The system of claim 1, wherein the fluid base comprises a substrate and one or more colorants.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein the substrate is selected from one or more of a wax, fatty acid alcohol, fatty acid, fatty ester, polyethylene, polyethylene glycol, sterol, and silicone wax.

4. The system of claim 2, wherein the substrate is selected from one or more of beeswax, ozokerite wax, candelilla wax, carnauba wax, and paraffin wax.

5. The system of any one of claims 1 to 4, further comprising one or more additives adapted to be mixed with the one or more fluid bases, wherein the additive is selected from a moisturizer, an oil, a vitamin, a UV protectant, a flavorant, and a fragrance.

6. The system of any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein the propulsion means comprises a piston mounted onto a threaded rod.

7. The system of any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein the case further comprises a collar, wherein the collar is adapted to receive the applicator and wherein the collar is adapted to reversibly attach to the propulsion means.

8. A kit for making a fluid lipstick product, the kit comprising:

one or more fluid bases;

an applicator adapted to receive the one or more fluid bases, wherein the applicator comprises a fill opening and a dispensing opening, and wherein the one or more fluid bases are transferred into the applicator through the fill opening to form the lipstick; and

a propulsion means adapted to engage with the applicator, wherein the propulsion means is adapted to push the lipstick through the dispensing opening of the applicator.

9. The kit of claim 8, wherein the fluid base comprises a substrate and one or more colorants.

10. The kit of claim 9, wherein the substrate is selected from one or more of a wax, fatty acid alcohol, fatty acid, fatty ester, polyethylene, polyethylene glycol, sterol, and silicone wax.

11. The kit of claim 9, wherein the substrate is selected from one or more of beeswax, ozokerite wax, candelilla wax, carnauba wax, and paraffin wax.

12. The kit of any one of claims 8 to 11, further comprising one or more additives adapted to be mixed with the one or more fluid bases, wherein the additive is selected from a moisturizer, an oil, a vitamin, a UV protectant, a flavorant, and a fragrance.

13. The kit of any one of claims 8 to 12, wherein the propulsion means comprises a piston mounted onto a threaded rod.

14. The kit of any one of claims 8 to 13, wherein the case further comprises a collar, wherein the collar is adapted to receive the applicator and wherein the collar is adapted to reversibly attach to the propulsion means.

15. A method for making a fluid lipstick product, the method comprising:

transferring one or more fluid bases into an applicator, wherein the applicator comprises a fill opening and a dispensing opening, and wherein the one or more fluid bases are transferred into the applicator through the fill opening to form the fluid lipstick contained within the applicator; and

engaging a propulsion means with the applicator, wherein the propulsion means is adapted to push the fluid lipstick through the dispensing opening of the applicator.

16. The method of claim 15, the fluid base comprises a substrate and one or more colorants.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the substrate is selected from one or more of a wax, fatty acid alcohol, fatty acid, fatty ester, polyethylene, polyethylene glycol, sterol, and silicone wax.

18. The method of claim 16, wherein the substrate is selected from one or more of beeswax, ozokerite wax, candelilla wax, carnauba wax, and paraffin wax.

19. The method of any one of claims 15 to 18, further comprising one or more additives adapted to be mixed with the one or more fluid bases, wherein the additive is selected from a moisturizer, an oil, a vitamin, a UV protectant, a flavorant, and a fragrance.

20. The method of any one of claims 15 to 19, wherein the propulsion means comprises a piston mounted onto a threaded rod.

21. The method of any one of claims 15 to 20, wherein the case further comprises a collar, wherein the collar is adapted to receive the applicator and wherein the collar is adapted to reversibly attach to the propulsion means.

22. A method for making a fluid lipstick product, the method comprising:

heating and mixing two or more fluid bases to produce a homogenous mixture;

transferring the homogenous mixture into an applicator, wherein the applicator comprises a fill opening and a dispensing opening, and wherein the homogenous mixture is transferred into the applicator through the fill opening;

cooling the homogenous mixture in the applicator to form the fluid lipstick contained within the applicator; and

engaging a propulsion means with the applicator, wherein the propulsion means is adapted to push the fluid lipstick through the dispensing opening of the applicator.

23. The method of claim 22, the fluid base comprises a substrate and one or more colorants.

24. The method of claim 23, wherein the substrate is selected from one or more of a wax, fatty acid alcohol, fatty acid, fatty ester, polyethylene, polyethylene glycol, sterol, and silicone wax.

25. The method of claim 23, wherein the substrate is selected from one or more of beeswax, ozokerite wax, candelilla wax, carnauba wax, and paraffin wax.

26. The method of any one of claims 23 to 25, further comprising one or more additives adapted to be mixed with the one or more fluid bases, wherein the additive is selected from a moisturizer, an oil, a vitamin, a UV protectant, a flavorant, and a fragrance.

27. The method of any one of claims 23 to 26, wherein the propulsion means comprises a piston mounted onto a threaded rod.

28. The method of any one of claims 23 to 27, wherein the case further comprises a collar, wherein the collar is adapted to receive the applicator and wherein the collar is adapted to reversibly attach to the propulsion means.

CUSTOMIZABLE LIP COLORING PRODUCT

Claim of Priority

This patent application claims the benefit of priority to U.S. Provisional Application Serial No. 62/829,118, filed April 4, 2019, which is incorporated by reference herein in its entirety.

Field

Inventive embodiments disclosed herein relate to customizable lip coloring products and methods for making the lip coloring products.

Background

Shopping for a lip coloring product is often a time-consuming and unrewarding process. Retail establishments often cany a limited number of products from a limited number of manufacturers, and if a consumer cannot find what she wants, she is forced to either visit additional retail outlets or settle for a less desirable product Online shopping may provide more choice, but it is often difficult to match the consumer’s desired color and other characteristics of the lipstick to what is displayed on a screen. Certain retailers offer customizable lip coloring products, but such customization is controlled by the retailer and the consumer is often forced to wait to receive the resulting product

Summary

From a cost and environmental impact perspective, a refillable or reusable lipstick system is preferable over standard single-sue disposable lipsticks that are prevalent in the market Refillable or replaceable lipstick systems are known in the art, but they generally are used with solid lipsticks. The present invention provides for a refillable or replaceable fluid lipstick system, wherein the user can control the properties of her fluid lipstick, including color, texture, and gloss, in order to create a unique fluid lipstick that is suited to her precise needs. The present invention allows the consumer to create custom fluid lipstick at home or another location away from a retail establishment in a short amount of time.

Disclosed is a fluid lipstick system, the system comprising an applicator adapted to receive one or more fluid bases, wherein the applicator comprises a fill opening and a dispensing opening, and wherein the one or more fluid bases are transferred into the applicator through the fill opening to form a fluid lipstick contained within the applicator; and a propulsion means adapted to engage with the applicator, wherein the propulsion means is adapted to push the fluid lipstick through the dispensing opening of the applicator.

Also disclosed is a kit for making a fluid lipstick product, the kit comprising one or more fluid bases; an applicator adapted to receive the one or more fluid bases, wherein the applicator comprises a fill opening and a dispensing opening, and wherein the one or more fluid bases are transferred into the applicator through the fill opening to form the fluid lipstick contained within the applicator; and a propulsion means adapted to engage with the applicator, wherein the propulsion means is adapted to push the fluid lipstick through the dispensing opening of the applicator.

Also disclosed is a method for making a fluid lipstick product, the method comprising transferring one or more fluid bases into an applicator, wherein the applicator comprises a fill opening and a dispensing opening, and wherein the one or more fluid bases are transferred into the applicator through the fill opening to form the fluid lipstick contained within the applicator; and engaging a propulsion means with the applicator, wherein the propulsion means is adapted to push the fluid lipstick through the dispensing opening of the applicator.

Also disclosed is a method for making a fluid lipstick product, the method comprising heating and mixing two or more fluid bases to produce a homogenous mixture; transferring the homogenous mixture into an applicator, wherein the applicator comprises a fill opening and a dispensing opening, and wherein the homogenous mixture is transferred into the applicator through the fill opening; cooling the homogenous mixture in the applicator to form a fluid lipstick contained within the applicator; and engaging a propulsion means with the applicator, wherein the propulsion means is adapted to push the fluid lipstick through the dispensing opening of the applicator.

In some embodiments of the invention, the fluid base comprises a substrate and one or more colorants. In some embodiments, the substrate is selected from one or more of a wax, fatty acid alcohol, fatty acid, fatty ester, polyethylene, polyethylene glycol, sterol, and silicone wax. In certain embodiments, the substrate is selected from one or more of beeswax, ozokerite wax, candelilla wax, carnauba wax, and paraffin wax.

In some embodiments of the invention, one or more additives selected from a moisturizer, an oil, a vitamin, a UV protectant, a flavorant, and a fragrance may be added to the one or more fluid bases to form the fluid lipstick.

In some embodiments of the invention, the propulsion means is a piston mounted onto a threaded rod. In certain embodiments, the case further comprises a collar, wherein the collar is adapted to receive the applicator and wherein the collar is adapted to reversibly attach to the propulsion means.

Detailed Description

Fluid Lipstick

The present invention provides a fluid lipstick product. For the purpose of this invention,“fluid” means a substance that has no fixed shape and yields to external pressure. Fluids according to the invention have a non-limiting degree of viscosity or fluidity and are able to flow, for example, out of a tube or an applicator. In some embodiments, the propulsion means extrudes the fluid lipstick out of the dispensing opening of the applicator.

The fluid lipstick comprises one or more fluid bases. In some embodiments, the fluid base comprises one or more substrates and one or more colorants. The particular type or types of substrate used to form the fluid base depends on the desired texture and consistency of the resulting lipstick. Suitable substrates include, for example, waxes, fatty acid alcohols, fatty acids, fatty esters, polyethylenes, polyethylene glycols, sterols, and silicone waxes. Many different types of wax can be used in the substrate, such as beeswax, ozokerite wax, candelilla wax, carnauba wax, and paraffin wax. Further, oils (e.g., olive oil, mineral oil, cocoa butter, lanolin, pig fat, castor oil, and petrolatum) can be used in the substrate. One substrate or combination of substrates may be used in the fluid base in order to control the texture and consistency of the fluid lipstick, for example, to modulate the viscosity of the fluid lipstick.

The colorants which may be used in the fluid base may be any that are routinely used in cosmetics, including, but not limited to, metal oxides (e.g., iron oxides, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide), FD&C or D&C colors, organic or inorganic pigments, and pearls (e.g., titanated mica, silica, fish scales, thin flaked alumina, cholesteric or chiral pneumatic liquid crystals). A list of suitable colorants for cosmetics can be found, for example, in the International Cosmetic Ingredient Dictionary and Handbook, Volume 2, 7th Edition, 1997.

In some embodiments, the fluid lipstick comprises one fluid base. In other embodiments, the fluid lipstick comprises a combination of two or more fluid bases, for example, a combination of two, three, four, five or six fluid bases. In such embodiments, the two or more fluid bases are combined, for example, in a separate container, and mixed to homogeneity prior to being transferred into the applicator. In some embodiments, the two or more fluid bases are combined, for example, in a separate container, heated, and mixed to homogeneity prior to being transferred into the applicator.

One or more additives can be included in the fluid lipstick to create different effects or properties, including, for example, a moisturizer, an oil, a vitamin, a UV protectants, a flavorant, and/or a fragrance that are routinely used in cosmetics. Suitable UV protectants include, for example, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, oxybenzone, octinoxate, and/or avobenzone. Other ingredients can be used in lipstick to create different effects, such as matte, frost, or gloss finishes. These ingredients can include, but are not limited to, silica, silicone oil, mica, fish scales, and peari particles.

Fluid Lipstick System

The fluid lipstick system according to the present invention comprises a refillable or replaceable applicator adapted to receive fluid lipstick ingredients comprising one or more fluid bases and optionally one or more additives, wherein the applicator comprises a fill opening and a dispensing opening, and wherein the fluid lipstick ingredients are transferred into the applicator through the fill opening to form a fluid lipstick contained within the applicator; and a propulsion means adapted to engage with the applicator, wherein the propulsion means is adapted to push the fluid lipstick through the dispensing opening of the applicator.

In some embodiments, for example, as illustrated in Figures 1A to 1L and 2A to 2E, the applicator is designed to be filled by the user. In such embodiments, the user fills an empty applicator with fluid lipstick ingredients and then assembles the propulsion means and other elements of the lipstick case. In some embodiments, the applicator is reusable and can be refilled by the user one or more times. In other embodiments, the applicator is disposable and the user refills a new applicator with each new use. In other embodiments, for example, as illustrated in Figure 3 A to 3F, the applicator is disposable and can be discarded after a single use and replaced with a new applicator pre-filled with fluid lipstick. In all

embodiments, all or some of the propulsion means and the other elements of the case are intended to be reusable.

Figure 4 depicts a non-limiting example of a fluid lipstick system according to the invention. Referring to Figure 4, applicator 1 comprises fill opening 2 and dispensing opening 3 located on applicator tip 4. Applicator 1 is hollow, e.g., a hollow tube, thus defining a reservoir 5 for receiving fluid lipstick ingredients and holding the fluid lipstick. Applicator 1 may be any shape, for example, cylindrical or cuboid. In one embodiment, applicator 1 is cylindrical. In the embodiment illustrated in Figure IB, applicator tip 4 is angled with respect to the opposite end of applicator 1, resulting in a cylindrical wedge- shaped applicator. It is to be understood Figure IB depicts an optional embodiment of the invention, and applicator tip 4 can be of any shape that facilitates application of the fluid lipstick to the lips, for example, as shown in Figure 5. In some embodiments, such as the one illustrated in Figures 1 A to 1L, fill opening 2 is larger than dispensing opening 3. In other embodiments, fill opening 1 may be the same size as or smaller than dispensing opening 3.

Applicator 1 may be made of any material that is chemically compatible with the one or more fluid bases and any optional additives that make up the fluid lipstick. In

embodiments wherein the one or more fluid bases are heated prior to being transferred into applicator 1, applicator 1 must also be able to withstand the elevated temperature without substantial deformation or degradation. In embodiments where applicator 1 is cooled below ambient temperature in order to cool the ingredients to form the fluid lipstick, applicator 1 must also be able to withstand such cooling without substantial deformation or degradation. Suitable materials for applicator 1 include plastic and metal.

Applicator 1 may be transparent in order to allow the user to observe the color of the fluid lipstick it contains. In some embodiments, the entire applicator 1 is transparent. In other embodiments, only a portion of applicator 1 is transparent, for example, the only applicator tip 4. In other embodiments, applicator 1 is opaque or semi-transparent. In such embodiments, applicator 1 may be colored or may bear a logo, brand name, or other insignia.

Applicator tip 4 can be made of the same material as applicator 1, or it can be made of a different material. In some embodiments, applicator tip 4 is made from a material designed to facilitate transferring the lipstick from applicator tip 4 onto the lips of the user, for example, by minimizing adherence of the lipstick to the interior of dispensing opening 3 and/or the surface of applicator tip 4. Such materials may include, for example, silicone or a gel material (e.g., a polyurethane gel). In an alternative embodiment, applicator tip 4 is made of the same material as applicator 1, and applicator tip 4 is coated with a layer of such second material designed to facilitate lipstick transfer.

Referring still to Figure 4, propulsion means 6 is adapted to push the fluid lipstick out of applicator 1 through dispensing opening 3. As illustrated in Figure 4, in one embodiment, propulsion means 6 comprises piston 7 and base 8 comprising threaded rod 9 and nut 10. Piston 7 is designed to maintain close contact with the inner circumference of applicator 1 in order to push the fluid lipstick toward dispensing opening 3 and minimize the amount of fluid lipstick left behind as piston 7 advances. In the embodiment illustrated in Figure 4, the outer diameter of the cylindrical-shaped piston 7 is the same as, or nearly the same as, the diameter of the inner circumference of applicator 1.

Piston 7 can be made of the same material as applicator 1, or it can be made of a different material. In some embodiments, piston 7 is made from a material that has a degree of flexibility to maintain close contact with the inner circumference of applicator 1. Such materials may include, for example, silicone or a gel material (e.g., a polyurethane gel). In an alternative embodiment, piston 7 is made of the same material as the applicator 1, and the inner circumference of applicator 1 is coated with a layer of such second material designed to maintain close contact with piston 7.

Any suitable mechanism known in the art for advancing piston 7 longitudinally through applicator 1 to push the fluid lipstick out of dispensing opening 3 may be employed, provided that such mechanism allows for refilling or replacing applicator 1. Non-limiting examples of such mechanisms are disclosed in U.S. Patent Nos. 4,323,157 and 4,954,000. In the embodiment illustrated in Figures 1 A to 1L, the propulsion means 6 comprises piston 7 and base 8, wherein the base comprises threaded rod 9 and nut 10. Piston 7 comprises hole 11 with screw threads designed to engage with the threads of threaded rod 9. To prepare for use, piston 7 is screwed onto threaded rod 9 until it is near nut 10. Base 8 is then engaged with applicator 1 by inserting threaded rod 9 into reservoir 5 of applicator 1. See, e.g., Figures 1 A to 1L.

Referring to Figure 4, in order to advance piston 7 longitudinally through applicator 1, collar 12 is placed over applicator 1 and secured to nut 10 of base 8. In the embodiment illustrated in Figure 1A to 1L, nut 10 comprises threads 13 that are designed to reversibly engage with threads on the inner surface of collar 12 (not pictured). As illustrated in Figure 4, collar 12 can be the same shape as applicator 1 (i.e., cylindrical as shown in Figure 1). Alternatively, the outer surface of collar 12 may be a different shape than applicator 1, as illustrated in Figure 6. However, applicator 1 must rotate freely within collar 12, so the shape of the inner circumference of collar 12 must allow for such rotation, for example, by being of the same shape as applicator 1. Additionally, collar 12 only covers a portion of applicator 1, wherein at least the applicator tip 4 of applicator 1 is not covered by collar 12.

When collar 12 is secured to nut 10 of base 8, piston 7 can be advanced longitudinally along threaded rod 9 by rotating collar 12 with respect to applicator 1. Such longitudinal movement of piston 7 along threaded rod 9 moves piston 7 longitudinally through applicator

1, thus pushing the fluid lipstick contained within the reservoir 5 out through dispensing opening 3. Rotating body 12 in the opposite direction relative to applicator 1 moves piston 7 in the opposite direction and can act to withdraw the fluid lipstick back into applicator tip 4.

The fluid lipstick system may optionally include cap 14 designed to reversibly engage with collar 12, as illustrated in Figure 4. Cap 14 can serve to protect the fluid lipstick in applicator 1 by preventing or slowing drying, oxidizing, or other degradation of the fluid lipstick. In some embodiments, the inside of cap 14 is designed to directly contact applicator tip 4 and/or dispensing hole 3 in a manner to prevent lipstick from passing through dispensing hole 3. This can be beneficial when the lip coloring product is being stored, and it can also be useful to prevent leakage of the fluid lipstick ingredients when after being transferred into applicator 1. In some embodiments, a plug or stopper protrudes from the interior top portion of cap 14 in such a manner that it lines up with and reversibly engages with dispensing hole 3 of applicator 1, thus preventing fluid lipstick from passing through dispensing opening 3.

Collar 12 and cap 14 may made of any suitable material for cosmetic cases, such as metal or plastic. Collar 12 and/or cap 14 may be transparent in order to allow the user to observe the color of the lipstick contained within the case. In other embodiments, collar 12 and/or cap 14 are opaque or semi-transparent. In such embodiments, the collar 12 and/or cap 14 may be colored or may bear a logo, brand name, or other insignia.

Kit

In one embodiment, a kit for making a fluid lipstick product according to the present invention comprises one or more fluid bases and optionally one or more additives; one or more applicators; a propulsion means; a collar; and a cap, each as described herein. The fluid bases and optional additives according to the present invention may be packaged in containers, such as tubes or bottles. The containers may be made of any suitable material that is chemically resistant to its contents and may be disposable or reusable. Exemplary materials include plastic and glass. In one embodiment, the one or more fluid bases and/or the optional additives are contained within plastic squeeze tubes.

In other embodiments, a kit for making a fluid lipstick product according to the present invention comprises one or more applicators pre-filled with fluid lipstick; a propulsion means; a collar; and a cap, each as described herein.

In order to assist the user in picking a shade or color of fluid lipstick, a kit according to the present invention may optionally include recipes or instructions for preparing certain shades or colors. The instructions may further include advice or instructions on additives that may be added to the fluid lipstick. The kit may also include a color wheel, palette, or other chart that may assist in selecting and preparing the fluid lipstick. Such information may be in the form of printed materials, a computer readable medium, or directions to a website. The kit may optionally include a video with instructions for the user.

The kit may optionally include a container for mixing the fluid lipstick ingredients. Such container can be made of any material that is chemically resistant to the various lipstick ingredients. In embodiments wherein the fluid lipstick ingredients are heated prior to transferring to the applicator, the container is designed to withstand heating without substantial deformation. Suitable materials for the container include plastic and glass. The container may also be used to measure the various fluid lipstick ingredients, so the container may have graduations etched or marked onto its surface indicating units of measure (e.g., ounces, milliliters, grams, or other units).

For embodiments of the invention wherein the fluid lipstick ingredients are heated prior to transferring to the applicator, it is understood that the means for heating the ingredients is typically not included in the kit but is a device that the user typically already has at her home or is otherwise readily available to her. Suitable heating means include a conventional microwave oven, a heating block, a hot plate, a steam bath, a water bath, a conventional oven, a stove, a flame, a hot air blower, any number of electrical heating devices (such as a hot light or infrared heater), or other such heating mechanisms known in the art that are capable of heating the lipstick ingredients until they form a liquid. In some embodiments, however, the heating means may be included in the kit, for example, a heating block or hot plate. The heating means may in some embodiments be incorporated into the container in which the fluid lipstick ingredients are combined, so a separate heating device may not be necessary. The kit may optionally include a stopper or cover that is designed to reversibly engage with applicator tip 4 and/or dispensing opening 3 and prevent liquefied base or lipstick from passing through dispensing opening 3. Such stopper or cover can applied when the fluid lipstick ingredients are being transferred into applicator 1 or during storage of the fluid lipstick, and then removed any time prior to using the fluid lipstick.

The kit may optionally include a funnel that is designed to fit into fill opening 2 of applicator 1 and to facilitate transfer of the fluid lipstick ingredients into applicator 1. In some embodiments, the funnel comprises threads that are designed to reversibly engage with threads on the inner surface of collar 12. Such an embodiment further serves to prevent the fluid lipstick ingredients from coming into contact with the threads of collar 12.

In some embodiments of the kit according to the invention, the applicator is reusable and can be refilled one or more times. In other embodiments, the applicator is disposable and can be discarded after a single use. In some embodiments, a kit may contain two or more applicators. Generally, the propulsion means and the other elements of the case are intended to be reusable.

Methods

Methods for making and/or using a fluid lipstick product according to the present invention include the steps of transferring one or more fluid bases into an applicator, wherein the applicator comprises a fill opening and a dispensing opening, and wherein the one or more fluid bases are transferred into the applicator through the fill opening to form the fluid lipstick contained within the applicator; and engaging a propulsion means with the applicator, wherein the propulsion means is adapted to push the fluid lipstick through the dispensing opening of the applicator. Other methods for making and/or using a fluid lipstick product according to the present invention include the steps of disengaging an applicator from a propulsion means, replacing the applicator with a new applicator pre-filled with fluid lipstick, and engaging the propulsion means with the new applicator.

A non-limiting embodiment of making a fluid lipstick product according to the present invention is illustrated by Figures 1 A to 1L. Starting with a fully assembled fluid lipstick case, cap 14 is removed and collar 12 is unscrewed from nut 10. Propulsion means 6 is removed from applicator 1 and piston 7 is screwed downward toward nut 10. Applicator 1 and the elements of propulsion means 8 can be cleaned by the user at this point. New fluid base is then added to applicator 1 and propulsion means 6 is re-engaged with applicator 1 by pushing threaded rod 9 into applicator 1 until the base of applicator 1 touches nut 10. Collar 12 is then screwed onto threads 13 of nut 10, at which point the fluid lipstick is ready for use. Another non-limiting embodiment of making a fluid lipstick product according to the present invention is illustrated by Figures 2A to 2E. In this embodiment, the fluid lipstick comprises two or more fluid bases and optionally one or more additives. First, the user selects two or more fluid bases to combine to form the desired shade of lip coloring product. The user may consult recipes, instructions and/or color palettes that are optionally included in the kit or otherwise available (e.g., online). The user then adds an appropriate amount of each fluid base to a container and mixes to for a homogenous mixture. As described herein, the container may include graduations etched or imprinted on its surface to assist the user in measuring the amounts of each colored base. Alteratively, the user may use other measuring tools (e.g., measuring spoons or scoops) or measure the mass of each fluid base by placing the container on a scale. In some embodiments, additives (e.g., a moisturizer, an oil, a vitamin, a UV protectants, a flavorant, and/or a fragrance) may be added to the mixture. After a homogeneous mixture is attained, the user can observe the color and other properties of the mixture and determine of any adjustments should be made. For example, the user may add additional amounts of one or more fluid bases or one or more additives to fine-tune the lipstick. Once the desired color and properties have been attained, the user pours the homogenous mixture into applicator 1 through fill opening 2. The user may use a funnel, which is optionally included in the kit, to assist in pouring the homogenous mixture into the applicator. The user then assembles the remainder of the fluid lipstick case, at which point the fluid lipstick is ready for use.

In some embodiments, the user may heat and stir the mixture of one or more fluid bases until a homogeneous mixture is formed. Any known heating means can be employed to heat the contents of the container. In some embodiments, additives (e.g., a moisturizer, an oil, a vitamin, a UV protectants, a flavorant, and/or a fragrance) may be added before, during, or after this heating step. In some embodiments, after pouring the heated homogenous mixture into applicator 1, applicator 1 is allowed to sit at ambient temperature for an amount of time until the homogenous mixture thickens to a desired consistency. In other

embodiments, applicator 1 can be cooled to thicken the homogenous mixture, for example, in a conventional freezer or an ice bath, for an amount of time until the lipstick thickens to a desired consistency.

A non-limiting embodiment of replacing an applicator in a fluid lipstick system according to the present invention is illustrated by Figure 3. In this embodiment, the user removes and discards a used applicator and replaces it was a new applicator pre-filled with fluid lipstick. Such new applicator is assembled along with the previously-used propulsion means and the other elements of the lipstick case.
