Provided is a damper having a longer service life, the damper imparting a resistance force having hysteresis characteristics onto a moving member that moves in a reciprocating manner along an axial center, while braking the movement. A cam surface (745) slanted with respect to the axis O is provided on the outer periphery of a pushrod (7) that is to be braked by the damper (8). The damper (8) has: a cylindrical slider (4) that has, on the inner periphery thereof, a cam surface (42) that makes surface contact with the cam surface (745); a coil spring (30) for urging the slider (4) in the direction in which the cam surface (42) is pressed against the cam surface (745); and a cylindrical case (1) for housing the slider (4) and the coil spring (30). A slit (45) is formed in the slider (4) extending along the total length thereof. When the pushrod (7) moves along the axial center O thereof, the slider (4) is pressed outwards by contact between the cam surface (42) and the cam surface (745), and moves with the pushrod (7) while pressing the entirety of the outer peripheral surface (41) thereof against the inner peripheral surface (12) of the case (1).
