A defrosting method and device for a heat pump apparatus, and a hot water unit. The heat pump apparatus comprises a compressor (11), wherein an air inlet of the compressor (11) communicates with an air outlet by means of an air supply valve (16). The defrosting method for the heat pump apparatus comprises: under conditions where an outdoor unit heat exchanger (14) of the heat pump apparatus is in a refrigeration mode, obtaining the temperature of the outdoor unit heat exchanger (14); under conditions where the temperature of the outdoor unit heat exchanger (14) is lower than or equal to a set frosting temperature threshold, opening the air supply valve (16); and under conditions where the temperature of the outdoor unit heat exchanger (14) is higher than or equal to a set defrosting temperature threshold, closing the air supply valve (16). By using the defrosting method for the heat pump apparatus, a defrosting effect can be achieved without switching a four-way valve (12), and the service life of the four-way valve (12) is prolonged.
