Abstract:
Provided is a die that has excellent wear resistance and erosion resistance to molten metal. The die is provided with: an iron-based die base material; a nitrogen diffusion layer provided on top of the die base material; a nitrogen compound layer provided on top of the nitrogen diffusion layer; and an iron-based oxide layer that is provided on top of the nitrogen compound layer and that forms the outermost layer. The thickness LN of the nitrogen diffusion layer in the die is 100 μm or more, the maximum Vickers hardness HS of the nitrogen diffusion layer is 900 HV or more, and the thickness LO of the iron-based oxide layer is 1 μm or more and less than 10 μm.
