Abstract:

A display apparatus capable of performing a two-sided display and switching between vertical and horizontal displays, and a method for driving this display apparatus. Each pixel has a first region having a first light emitting element and also has a second region having a second light emitting element. The first region is used for downward emission, while the second region is used for upward emission. There are provided a source signal line driver circuit for driving each pixel; a first gate signal line driver circuit having a scanning direction that is orthogonal to that of the source signal line driver circuit; and a second gate signal line driver circuit having a scanning direction that is orthogonal to that of the first gate signal line driver circuit. During a normal display, the first gate signal line driver circuit is used to perform a vertical scanning. When the horizontal and vertical displays are switched, the second gate signal line driver circuit is used to perform a vertical scanning.
