Abstract:
Disclosed are a dry torque converter for an electric vehicle and a method for controlling same. A dry torque converter for an electric vehicle according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: a planetary gear connected to an input shaft by a first element, connected to an output shaft by a second element, and variably connected to a fixed unit by a third element; at least one eddy-current torque generator provided between the first element and the second element and configured to generate an eddy current so as to be controlled by the speed of the output shaft; a front cover integrally connected to the input shaft and the first element so as to contain the planetary gear; a back cover provided near the output shaft and coupled to the front cover; a one-way clutch provided between a reactor housing coupled to the third element and an inner race connected to the fixed unit so as to establish/release unidirectional connection between the third element and the fixed unit; a clutch unit provided on the inner race between the reactor housing and the back cover so as to connect the third element and the fixed unit when the input shafts rotate in the inverse direction; and a lockup mechanism provided on the second element so as to interwork with the eddy-current torque generator, the lockup mechanism selectively contacting the radial inside of the front cover by means of centrifugal force delivered to the eddy-current torque generator according to the rotational speed of the output shaft, thereby directly connecting the input shaft and the output shaft.
