Abstract:
A method of splitting input data symbols into two half rate data symbol streams, each passing through a respective pulse shaping filter at the transmitter, and sampling the received signal at symbol rate followed by symbol rate equalization at the receiver. Disclosure also including criteria for spectral shaping pulse selection to achieve inter-symbol interference and cross-symbol interference free transmission. Two classes of example pulses satisfying such criteria including the one with bandwidth limited to symbol rate and the other having excess bandwidth higher than the symbol rate. Algorithms for equalization with dual transmission pulses based on the zero-forcing (ZF) and minimum mean square error (MMSE) principles respectively. In addition, a scheme to avoid spectral null due to spectral overlapping to improve the equalization performance for the class of spectral shaping pulses with excess bandwidth.
