The present invention relates to: a composition comprising kestose as an active ingredient; and use of the composition as an agent to increase the production and/or the content of short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) in the intestines, and for promoting bacteria that produce short chain fatty acids, preventing, treating or ameliorating an inflammatory disease such as atopic dermatitis or intestinal inflammation, and regulating intestinal microbiome. The composition may be a food, pharmaceutical or health functional food composition.
