Abstract:
Provided are: an electromagnetic wave-absorbing material which can be used to obtain an electromagnetic wave absorber having a broader band with the same thickness as conventional materials; and an electromagnetic wave absorber containing the material. This electromagnetic wave absorbing material contains a multiferroic material comprising a complex oxide containing bismuth (Bi) and iron (Fe) and further containing one or more types of a first additive element selected from the group consisting of nickel (Ni), cobalt (Co), manganese (Mn), and chromium (Cr). The complex oxide has an Aurivillius-type crystal structure. The frequency of the electromagnetic waves absorbed by the multiferroic material falls in the range of between 100 MHz and 1 THz inclusive.
