This element member (11, 12) for a slide fastener has a fixed member (16), a plurality of fastener elements (14) attached to the fixed member (16), a member constituent part (20, 30) that is attached to the fixed member (16) and is a part of an openable retainer (5), and a guide part (40, 50) attached to the fixed member (16). The member constituent part (20, 30) has: a first end part that is arranged adjacent to one end part of an element row (13), and is adjacent to the element row (13) of the member constituent part (20, 30); and a second end part arranged on the opposite site of the member constituent part (20, 30) from the first end part. The guide part (40, 50) is arranged adjacent to the second end part of the member constituent part (20, 30). This makes it possible to support the guide part (40, 50) with gears (86, 87) of a sewing machine when using the sewing machine to sew the element member (11, 12) to a fabric (3), therefore making it possible to prevent the member constituent part (20, 30) from rocking or twisting, and to stably sew the member constituent part (20, 30) at a prescribed position on the fabric (3).
