Abstract:
An engine control device for controlling the opening and closing of an intake valve in an engine by means of a variable valve mechanism 72 having: a cam 72d; a pressure chamber 72c, the interior of which is filled with engine oil, the oil pressure of the engine oil being changed by the operation of the cam 72d; and an oil pressure valve 72b connected to the oil pressure chamber 72c and controlling the oil pressure operating on the intake valve 22 by opening/closing. The variable valve mechanism 72 performs compression self-combustion control, and controls the oil pressure valve such that the valve-opening timing of the intake valve 22 is retarded in accordance with the engine load during the intake stroke when burned gas and fresh air are mixed during the intake stroke. Up to a prescribed engine load the valve-opening timing of the intake valve 22 is retarded until a prescribed timing in accordance with the engine load, and when the engine load exceeds the prescribed engine load, the valve-opening timing is set to a prescribed timing.
