Abstract:
This invention is adapted to restrict an increase in an engine output in a vehicle on which a torque converter-carrying automatic transmission is mounted, by, for example, a method of keeping a second traction throttle valve fully closed, between an instant at which a selective operation for shifting stopping range of the transmission to a travelling range there-of is detected and an instant at which a ratio N<sb>t</sb>/N<sb>e</sb> of a rotational speed N<sb>t</sb> of the output shaft of a torque converter to that N<sb>e</sb> of the engine becomes not higher than a predetermined level. This enables the completion of a selecting operation to be judged accurately, a selecting shock to be alleviated, and an effect in reducing a load on differential gears to be obtained reliably.
