Title:
ENGINE STARTER AND CHARGER
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1988/006377
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A field coil is split into a plurality of sections which are connected in parallel with the battery for starting and are connected in series for generating the power after the engine is started. Thus a sufficiently large field magnetomotive force is maintained even when the battery voltage has dropped at the time of starting. When the voltage is recovered as a result of generating the power, a sufficiently large field magnetomotive force is maintained on a reduced current. This makes it possible to reduce the amount of copper used for the field coil and the space for winding, and further makes it possible to obtain an engine starter and charger which is light in weight, small in size and inexpensive.
