Abstract:
The present invention relates to a composition for an optical material in which a rapid curing phenomenon that occurs during polymerization in an episulfide-based high refractive optical material is suppressed, and to a method for manufacturing an optical material using same. Provided in the present invention is a composition for an episulfide-based high refractive index optical material comprising an episulfide compound represented by formula 1, a 2,3-epoxypropyl (2,3-epithiopropyl) sulfide compound, a catechol compound, and a quaternary phosphonium salt as a polymerization catalyst. The composition of the present invention can prevent a sudden increase in viscosity during polymerization in an episulfide-based high refractive index optical material and maintain a constant curing rate, and thus can be used as a high-quality lens material free of polymerization imbalance issues.
