[Problem] The purpose of the present invention is to provide a fiber for artificial hair which has a natural glossiness while a reduction in the strength thereof is suppressed, and to provide a method for producing the same. [Solution] The fiber for artificial hair according to the present invention comprises a recombinant structural protein and gloss suppressing particles that are incompatible with the recombinant structural protein, wherein the gloss suppressing particle content is more than 1 part by mass to no more than 12 parts by mass for every 100 parts by mass of the recombinant structural protein, and the gloss suppressing particles are organic polymer particles or metal oxide particles having an average particle diameter of more than 0.2 μm to no more than 10 μm.
