Abstract:
The present invention relates to a fingerprint recognition unit using a variable retarder capable of extracting only pure fingerprint information by separating noise from a fingerprint signal mixed with an optical signal, even without enlarging a required pixel or reducing the size of a photo sensor, and an electronic device comprising same. A fingerprint recognition unit according to the present invention comprises: a transparent cover; a polarizing unit disposed under the transparent cover; a light emitting unit disposed under the polarizing unit to emit light; a photo sensor unit disposed under the light emitting unit; and a variable retarder disposed between the light emitting unit and the photo sensor unit. The variable retarder comprises: an electrode unit to which a first voltage and a second voltage are selectively applied, the electrode unit forming an electric field according to the first voltage or the second voltage; and a liquid crystal layer including liquid crystals and disposed in a region affected by the electric field.
