Title:
FLUORESCENT SOLVATOCHROMIC PIGMENT
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2010/090265
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Provided is a novel fluorescent solvatochromic pigment that (1) has ionic terminals readily enabling use on a hydrophilic surface or in a polar solvent; (2) can be efficiently excited by an ordinary argon laser (488 nm); (3) shifts emission wavelengths with changes in polarity; and (4) can effectively stain a biological tissue, such as a cell. When pyridinium groups were introduced to the electron-withdrawing groups of a neutral fluorescent solvatochromic pigment (JP 2008-291210 A) to synthesize a fluorescent solvatochromic pigment, it was discovered that this fluorescent solvatochromic pigment showed a strong fluorescent wavelength response to changes in the polarity of a hydrophilic surface and that a fluorescent solvatochromic pigment modified to become a cationic pigment can be used to stain a cell and monitor the behavior thereof.
