This fluorine-containing ether compound is represented by formula: R1-CH2-R2-CH2-OCH2CH(OH)CH2O-CH2-R3-CH2-R4 (in the formula, R2 and R3 each represent a perfluoropolyether chain, and R1 and R4 each represent a terminal group including two or three polar groups which are bound to different carbon atoms, and in which the carbon atoms bound to the polar groups are bound to one another via linkage groups including carbon atoms not bound to the polar groups).
