Disclosed is a foil transfer device capable of inhibiting unnecessary foil film conveyance and inhibiting a pressure-contact imprint on a sheet. This foil transfer device is provided with a heating roller, a pressurizing roller, a pressure-contact and separation mechanism, a conveyance roller, and a control unit. The pressure-contact and separation mechanism causes the heating roller to move between a pressure-contact position and a separation position. The control unit performs first processing, second processing, third processing, and fourth processing when causing a foil film to start pressure-contact on a sheet at a position on the sheet separated from the tip of the sheet. The first processing starts conveyance of the sheet in a state in which the heating roller is positioned at the separation position (time t1). The second processing stops the conveyance of the sheet before a foil transfer region on the sheet reaches a transfer position between the heating roller and the pressurizing roller (time t3). The third processing causes the heating roller to start moving from the separation position to the pressure-contact position in a state in which the sheet is stopped (time t3). The fourth processing resumes the conveyance of the sheet before the heating roller reaches the pressure-contact position (time t4).
