Abstract:
Provided is a gas electron multiplier, comprising: a readout anode plate (1); a micro-mesh electrode structure (2), formed by cascading n layers of micro-mesh electrodes (21) by means of a support structure (3), the support structure (3) being fixed on the readout anode plate (1); the micropores of the micro-mesh electrode (21) of the preceding layer are offset with the micropores of the micro-mesh electrode (21) of the subsequent layer, a gas avalanche amplification region is formed between the micro-mesh electrodes (21), and n is an integer greater than or equal to 3. The gas electron multiplier can increase the total gain of electron multiplication while reducing the ion feedback rate. The production of a photodetector on the basis of the gas electron multiplier avoids the problems of increased cost and decreased count rate caused by resistive electrodes and increases gain stability, and also solves the problem of a photocathode material sensitive to visible light being easily damaged by ion feedback.
