Abstract:
[Problem] When the rate of change in gate voltage is reduced, turn-off loss increases, which is undesirable. [Solution] A gate drive device comprising: a gate drive unit which drives the gate of a switching element; a peak detection unit which detects when the voltage across main terminals which is applied across the main terminals of the switching element while the switching element is turned OFF reaches a peak; and a drive condition varying unit which increases the rate of change in gate voltage of the switching element due to the gate drive unit, in response to the detection of voltage across main terminals having reached a peak.
