HELMET STRAP SYSTEM

CROSS- REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

The present PCT patent application claims priority benefit of the U.S. utility patent application number 15/709,823, entitled "HELMET STRAP SYSTEM" and filed on 20-SEP-2017, under 35 U.S.C. 111(a). The contents of this related provisional application are incorporated herein by reference for all purposes to the extent that such subject matter is not inconsistent herewith or limiting hereof

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Field of Invention

The present invention relates to a helmet strap system that secures a helmet onto the head of a user.

Description of Related Art

Helmets of all types are used in various sports and activities for head protection. Helmets are commonly used for motorcycle riders and many states require motorcycle riders to use helmets while riding a motorcycle. Motorcycle helmets usually come with a strap that secures the helmet under the chin of the user. Normally the strap loops through a D-ring that the user double loops the strap through and therefore secures the helmet into place, where strap is under the chin of the user. However use of this double loop D-ring arrangement can be difficult to maneuver in loosening and removing the strap during use. As a result it would be advantageous to have a user strap arrangement that allows a user to quickly release and secure the helmet into place.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates a strap system for a motorcycle helmet that includes: a first earflap on the helmet; a second earflap on the helmet, where the second earflap includes a receiving ring; a chin strap extending from the first earflap; a pair of hook and loop connectors on the chin strap; and a securing button at one end of the chin strap. The second earflap includes an opening adapted to receive the chin strap, where the receiving ring is a D-ring.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS

Figure 1 depicts a strap arrangement according to present invention.

Figure 2 depicts the strap arrangement where the strap is sealed into place.

Figure 3 depicts the insertion of the strap arrangement into a typical D-ring of the motorcycle helmet.

Figure 4 depicts the strap secured onto the helmet in a closed position.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The present invention relates to a quick release of the strap system that is used to secure a motorcycle helmet into place. The present invention uses a conventional strap with hook and loop connectors placed upon the surface of the strap. The hook and loop connectors provide a means to secure the strap around a D-ring. The strap is secured within an ear flap of the motorcycle helmet after the strap is secured. Therefore the user may simply release the strap from the ear flap and then release the strap down to remove the helmet. A single D-ring is used to secure the strap as opposed to the double D-ring that is known in the prior art helmets. With this modification a user can easily strap and then release the helmet as needed.

Figure 1 depicts a Strap 20 inserted through a D-ring 30 of a Helmet 50. As shown the Strap 20 inserts through the D-ring 30 that is attached to an ear flap 35 extending from Helmet 50. Inserted through the D-ring 30, the Strap 20 may be sealed through the use of hook and loop connectors on the surface of the strap 20. This attachment is shown in Figure 2. A snap button 32 is provided on strap 20 in the closed position that attaches to a Button 23 as shown in Figure 3. Strap 20 includes an inside portion 25 that includes hook and loop connectors. Once secured, the strap is inserted into the Ear Flap 35 as shown in Figure 4 and secured with Button 32. Here the strap is firmly secured in a closed position and then secured within the ear flap to prevent inadvertent release of the strap during use. The foregoing descriptions of specific embodiments of the present invention have been presented for purposes of illustration and description. They are not intended to be exhaustive or to limit the invention to the precise forms disclosed, and obviously many modifications and variations are possible in light of the above teaching. The exemplary embodiment was chosen and described in order to best explain the principles of the invention and its practical application, to thereby enable others skilled in the art to best utilize the invention and various embodiments with various modifications as are suited to the particular use contemplated.
