Description:
A HINGE FOR TRUNK LID Field of the Invention

The present invention relates to a hinge which enables the trunk lid in the vehicles to be opened and closed, which is fatigue resistant, and thus long-lasting. Background of the Invention

The trunk lids in the vehicles are connected to the vehicle body by a hinge mechanism. Generally, the trunk lid is opened by lifting with the force of the user. However, after the trunk lid has been opened to a certain point by the user, the trunk lid continues to open with its own weight since the center of gravity of the trunk lid passes behind the axis of rotation of the hinge. Since the trunk lid continues to open with its own weight, it has to hit to the body in order to stop; hitting wedge is added on the hinge in order to prevent it from hitting, and thus the trunk lid and the body are prevented from being deformed.

The wedges in the current technique immediately stop the trunk lid by hitting. There are no wedge types which prevent damage to the trunk lid and vehicle body by means of stopping by slowing it down. British Patent document no GB803554, an application known in the state of the art, discloses a hinge system which is used in lids and comprises a torsion bar. There is a torsion bar which provides ease in opening or closing of the hinge. There is also a buffer which prevents the hinge from opening too much. The buffer immediately limits the opening of the trunk lid. United States Patent Document no US2986770, another application known in the state of the art, discloses a hinge system used trunk of vehicles. In the system where the weight of the lid is supported with torsion bars, there are wedges on which the trunk arm hits in order to stop the movement.

United States Patent Document no US4580315, another application known in the state of the art, discloses a hinge comprising a torsion bar and a wedge which stops the movement.

The Problems Solved with the Invention

The objective of the present invention is to develop a slow-opening trunk lid hinge mechanism which slows down the trunk lid during opening of the trunk lid of the vehicle.

Detailed Description of the Invention

Figure 4 is B-B’ cross sectional view of detail A.

Figure 5 is C-C’ cross sectional view of detail A.

The components shown in the figures are each given reference numbers as follows:

1. Hinge 2. Fixed body

21. First hole

3. Movable body

31. Second hole

4. Bolt

5. Nut

6. First bushing

61. First flange

7. Second bushing

71. Cam

72. Second flange

A hinge (1), which enables the trunk lid in the vehicles to be opened and closed in a controlled way, essentially comprises

at least one fixed body (2) which is placed on the vehicle body,

at least two first holes (21) which are made on the fixed body (2),

at least one movable body (3) which is placed on the vehicle trunk lid and extends to the fixed body (2),

at least one second hole (31) which is made on the movable body (3) such that it will be concentric with the first hole (21),

at least one bolt (4) which is passed through the first hole (21) and the second hole (31),

at least one nut (5) which is placed on the end of the bolt (4) with a tooth, at least one first bushing (6) which has a cylindrical shape that is placed on the cylindrical shaped bolt (4),

at least one second bushing (7) which has a cylindrical shape that is shaped on the second bushing (6).

The hinge (1) of the present invention is placed on a fixed body (2) which has U shape on the opening that is made for trunk on the vehicle body. Two first holes (21) are made on parallel edges of the U shaped fixed body (2). A movable body (3) which has a bent rod shape and extends up to the fixed body (2) is arranged on the vehicle trunk lid. The movable body (3) is positioned such that it will be placed inside the U shaped fixed body (2). A second hole (31) is made on the movable body (3) such that it will be concentric with the first holes (21). A bolt

(4) which is passed through the first hole (21) and the second hole (31) is placed such that it will be symmetrical with the central axes of the first hole (21) and the second hole (31). There is head part on a flat surface of the cylindrical shaped bolt (4) and there is a screw tooth on its cylindrical surface. The head part of the bolt (4) passes through the first hole (21) and second hole (31) and contacts the fixed body (2). At least one nut (5) is placed on the cylindrical end of the bolt (4) which passes through the first hole (21) and second hole (31) and has screw tooth thereon. There is at least one cylindrical first bushing (6) on the cylindrical shaped bolt (4), which has a hole along its central axis. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the first bushing (6) is manufactured from metal material. The first bushing (6) is placed between the arms of the U shaped fixed body (2). There is a first flange (62) extending on the flat surfaces of the cylindrical shaped first bushing (6). The first flange (61) has a disc shape. A second bushing (7) which has a cylindrical shape and has a hole along its central axis is placed on the first bushing (6). There is a second flange (72) extending on the flat surfaces of the cylindrical shaped second bushing (7). The second flange (72) has a disc shape. The movable body (3) is placed on the second bushing (7). In other words, first bushing (6) is placed on the bolt (4), and the second bushing (7) is placed between the first flanges (61) of the first bushing (6). The movable body (3) is placed between the second flanges (72) of the second bushing (7). In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the second bushing (7) is manufactured from plastic material, and thus it prevents the fatigue of the material since it absorbs the forces falling thereon. Furthermore, a cam (71) is placed on the cylindrical surface of the second bushing (7) which has a cylindrical shape. In a preferred embodiment of the invention the cam (71) is produced from plastic material. When the user wants to open the trunk lid, the movable body (3) in the hinge (1) system circularly moves around the point where it is connected to the fixed body (2), that is around the central axis of the first hole (21) and the second hole (31). Upon circular movement of the movable body (3), a friction occurs between the movable body (3) and the second bushing (7). Furthermore, the weight of the movable body (3) carrying the trunk lid generates a force on the hinge (1) system. The second bushing (7) is manufactured from plastic material in order to absorb this force, and the first bushing (6) is manufactured from metal in order to increase the strength of the hinge (1). The second bushing (7) being plastic enables the forces falling on the hinge (1) system to be absorbed and prevents breaking in time and fatigue in the material. First bushing (6) is used for increasing the durability of the hinge (1). Furthermore, two cams (71) are placed on the second bushing (7), and in the cams (71), the hinge (1) system is prevented from breaking and losing its function due to the loads on the system. Furthermore, by means of the cam (71), the movable part (3) acts as a stopper during movement along the central axis of the first hole (21) and the second hole (31), and thus the trunk lid is enabled to be opened gradually.
