Claims:
C L A I M S
1. Hinge intended for hingedly connection of large wall, floor and/or ceiling panels (1013) by which a mobile, collapsible accomodation is composed, charcterized by two elongated, axially mutually displaceable profile rods, one of them (1) provided with two parallel flanges (3) for holding an edge portion of a panel (10) along all the length of the profile rod and with a profile part (5) in cross section curved in arcshape, and in engagement with the other profile rod (14), which has the shape of a tubular beam and along an edge is provided with a groove (6) curved to arcshape to receive said profile part (5) and with a deep permitting mutual pivoting of the profiles a requisite angle and an arclength of the profile part of the first mentioned profile rod, which brings about mutual locking in lateral direction of the profile rods during the entire turning movement.
2. Hinge according to claim 1, charcterized in that also the other profile rod (14) is provided with two parallel flanges (3) between which an edge portion of a panel is firmly attached.
3. Hinge according to claim 1, charcterized in that the other profile rod (14) is provided with a further groove (6) curved to arcshape, and in which a profile part (5) of a further profile rod (1) of the firstmentioned type is in engagement.
Description:
H I N G E

The present invention relates to a hinge, especially a hinge for pivoted connection of big wall, floor and/or ceiling panels by which a mobile collapsible accommodation is composed.

Hinges of this type are usually designed like a single long strip hinge or a number of standard hinges placed in a row, which all require mounting in situ and a careful fitting in of the panels. Further, the known hinges are also leaky and necessitate mounting of sealing means after the mounting of the hinges at the respective panels. At large stresses, which normally is the case here, hinges of this type will easily become deformed and, accordingly, subject to bending stress when used, and, what is worse, it is not possible any more to displace the hinge in axial direction if a dismounting of the hinge should be necessary,

The object of the invention is to achieve a hinge which overcomes the above-mentioned drawbacks.

This is obtained, according to the invention, in that the hinge comprises the characterizing features set forth in the attached claim 1. This means that one of the two profile rods, which preferably consists of extruded aluminum and is provided with two flanges, is applied with the flanges to an edge of a panel to be provided with a hinge, and the other profile rod which is designed as a rigid tubular beam or rod is slided axially onto the first profile rod with the arc-shaped profiled part in engagement with the groove curved in a corresponding way. Also the last-mentioned profile rod may be rigidly attached to an edge of a panel. The attachment of the panels to the profile rods is facilitated by the fact that the profile rods are provided with parallel flanges between which the panels are inserted and attached, for instance by gluing.

Further developments of the invention are set forth in claims 2 and 3.

The panels which should be connected pivoting, mutually or to a profile rod, can be provided with the profile rods in connection with the manufacture of the panels. Then they may be connected with separate profile rods or other panels at the mounting of for instance an accomodation simply by axial sliding together of the different parts in situ without use of tools or skilled labour force. The hinges become almost tight per se but can easily be provided with sealing bands made from flexible material with the edges inserted and clamped in longitudinal grooves in the profile rods.

The invention is further described in the following description with reference to the accompanying drawings which by way of example schematically illustrate two embodiments of hinges according to the invention, and in which Figs.l and 2 are end views, partly in section, of two profile rods forming a hinge, and Figs.3 and 4 are end views, partly in section, of three profile rods forming two hinges.

Fig.l illustrates a first and second profile rod 1 and 2, respectively, which both are manufactured by extrusion of an aluminum alloy. Rod 1 is an end view and rod 2 is a cross sectional view for the sake of clarity. The rod 1 has the shape of a longitudinal U-beam composed of two parallel flanges 3 and a bottom 4. Also the rod 2 has two parallel flanges 3 and a bottom 4 which comprise a part of a tubular beam 14. The rod 1 is provided with an arc-shaped, curved profile part 5 all along the length of the rod 1, and the rod 2 is provided with a correspondingly curved, arc-shaped groove 6 all along the length of the rod 2, into which groove 6 the profile part 5 protrudes to the bottom of the groove in the position shown with the profile rods 1 and 2 forming a right angel with each other. After folding down of the rod 1 flush with the rod 2, as shown in Fig.2, the profile part 5 is still in engagement with the groove 6, and the profile part 5 extends far enough into the groove 6 for maintaining a secure engagement also in this position. From this it follows that a joining of the two profile bars 1,2 is possible only by an axial sliding together of said bars that gives rise to the desired simplicity of the hinge. The hinge is tight per se, but if desired a sealing band 7 made from a flexible material and provided with edge bulges 8 may be inserted with the bulges 8 in grooves 9 located in each of the bars 1 and 2, as indicated by dashed lines.

With two panels 10,11 inserted and with an edge glued to the profile bars 1,2 it is possible to pivot the panels from a position flush with each other (Fig.2) to a position in which the panels mutually are forming a right angle (Fig.l).

As an alternative two panels 12,13 may be arranged to be pivoted from a position flush with each other (Fig.4) to a position (Fig.3) with the panels located in parallel with each other each forming a right angle with respect to their original positions. Two profile rods 1 with a curved, arc-shaped profile part 5 and of the same shape as the the profile rod 1 shown in Fig.l and 2 are here arranged with the profile parts 5 in engagement with each a groove 6 of a further profile rod 14, which groove is curved in a corresponding way. Also in this case a sealing band 15 made

from a flexible material and provided with edge bulges 16 may be attached with the edge bulges inserted into grooves 17 of the two profile rods 1. The invention is of course not restricted to the e bc iments shown and described above but may be modified in different ways within the scope of the inventive idea defined in the claims. The grooves 6 and the profile parts 5 of the profile rods 1 and 4, and 1 and 14, respectively, can, for instance, change places, and the profile rods may be shaped otherwise.
