Abstract:
A hydrophilic fiber which has a composition such that a polyolefin constitutes 30 % or more of a circumference of the cross section of a fiber, characterized in that it has a hydrophilicity of 30 seconds or less as measured according to the method described below and a retention ratio for such hydrophilicity after the treatment under a condition of a temperature of 40 °C and a relative humidity of 80 % for 30 days of 90 % or more. The above hydrophilicity is measured as follows: 5.0 g of a fiber sample is packed inside of a polymethylmethacrylate pipe having an inner diameter of 25 mm, an outer diameter of 30 mm and a length of 25 mm. The pipe is allowed to stand on water in a vessel of a diameter of 105 mm$g(f) having been filled with 1000 cc of water of 30 °C until it sinks to the bottom of the vessel. The fiber sample is then taken out of the pipe and is air-dryed at an ordinary temperature. The above procedure is repeated 4 times. In the fifth run, the time from the placement of the sample on the water to the arrival at the bottom is measured in terms of second, and is taken as the hydrophilicity of the fiber sample.
